Term 7 2011 Starting Block Week

Catherine Hayes – Icons and Aberrations

Icon painting is a wondrously meaningful process that has many rules and reasons for the way the painting is produced. The reason why and the way to do each component of the icon are in there to avoid producing a graven image to worship but instead to worship the spirit behind the image depicted.

Simply put to allow a devout Christian to focus their prayer time on God almighty and Jesus his son.

I choose Gabriel because he was the bringer of good news to Mary. I used some silver leaf that was left to me by my grandfather,  (a sign writer). It was quite a week full of peace and quiet, and alot of work. I learnt a lot not having used gouache before.
