Marc Hill - Art History
We started with the cave paintings in Lassaux France ‘Cave of the
Forgotten Dreams’ and went forward from there. We discussed colour and paints
techniques.
Went to Te Papa. The Artists.
Monet, William Blake, Constable, Turner, Van Gogh, Russo,
What is Art? Line, Shape, Form, Colour, Composition,
Texture, Space.
The seven principles –
- Balance – Symmetrical, asymmetrical and radial emphasis, contrast (elements that conflict with one another)
- Focal point – area of emphasis
- Gradation – Elements are combined using a series of gradual changes
- Movement – the path of the viewers eye throughout the artwork
- Proportion – measurement of the size and quality of the elements
- Rhythm - A reoccurring element that shows consistency with colour or lines
- Variety – quality or state having different forms or types
- Colour always have three characteristics
- hue – shades ( red, yellow or pink)
- Value – expression of colour (lightness or darkness)
- Intensity – refers to brightness or dullness
