Term 2 2010 Weekend Courses

Perry Scott - 3D wire work

Using 16mm ferrox rod (copper coated steel), tissue paper, watered down PVA , bend wire around something for circles, give it a reasonable overlap to keep the circle, use a clamp to hold while binding. Bend binding wire 90o and lay it along the wire that your binding, so there is no sharp end and keeping tension wrap over and around, keeping the tension at the end bend over and through it self and pull to create a friction hitch. When the ‘bones’ is constructed brush or dip tissue paper in the watered down PVA and lay down over wire ribs, use at least 3 layers. You can paint, place objects between layers, and polyurethane.

I wanted to create something that was useful as well as looked good so I decided that it would not just be a free standing sculpture but a lamp that sits on the floor. I call it ‘balloon caught in a hurricane’ something I chose after I finished it of course. It was a lot to get done in two days so it’s nice to have something in mind before hand and fun. Perry is a very knowledgeable, capable artist, able to come up with practical solutions to students problems quickly and efficiently  and he has such a fine artists eye.
