Term 3 2010 Ending Block Week

Mel Ford - High Definition Faces, Hands and Feet Casting

Using dentistry alginate and plaster impregnated bandages you can get the perfect  impressions of any part of the body you care to try.

We did hands, feet, faces, head and shoulders and body (from neck to hip). My daughters school was having stop work days so she came to help one day and I got a cast of her face, she was very brave, because you must close your eyes and rely on others not to cover your one source of air the nasal passages.

To make positive casts you can use plaster of Paris, wax, bronze  or glass, the later two being a mains course because of their complexity.  Because of my past employment, a chairside assistant, I got to do alot of alginate mixing. It was a fun week, everyone in the class got on very well together and helped each other out.
